Generally speaking, floods tend to be forgotten relatively quickly. It is, therefore important to regularly raise people’s awareness and this was one of the main aims of the
Previrisq trade fair which took place in Paris from the 21st to the 23d of September. PREVIRISQ provided an opportunity to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1910 flood, one of the biggest floods ever seen in Paris. Several exhibitions provided visitors with an overview of what occurred during this major flood and of what, logically, could also happen again.
PREVIRISQ also provided an excellent opportunity to promote ALFA’s La Bassée project within the context of a professional exhibition. This major European event dedicated to flood alleviation and sustainable development was organised by the Grands Lacs de Seine. It was based on the four concepts of flood protection, forecast, prevention and resilience. Public authorities and research institutions as well as consultancy offices, architects and town planners attended the event. The public at large was also welcomed to the fair.
PREVIRISQ aimed to emphasise the fact that, although a great deal of work concerning floods has already been done in France and in Europe in general, there is still much to do. The exhibition included a presentation about the La
Bassée project which is a significant example of new projects which could help improve the level of protection in the Île-de-France area. The presentation was based on the principles and efficiency of the innovative work that will be carried out at the confluence of the River Seine and the River Yonne. A specific stand dedicated to La Bassée welcomed visitors who were interested in the concept of the project and its results.
