Progress made on the Overdiepse Polder project
On Wednesday 1st of December 2010 an official start sign was given to the construction works in the Overdiepse Polder in the Netherlands. This took place in the presence of (former) residents and their children between straw and calves.
Now that the contractor has started its work, the role of the water board has been changed. Within the framework of the signed contract, the contractor has the freedom to determine its approach. This means that the contractor is now the first point of contact for the residents. The water board mainly keeps a monitoring role.
The first activities are already visible in the polder landscape. In the last week of January 2011, the contractor placed some trailers and a temporary access road was build. Now the construction of the first five mounds and the western part of the new river dike has started. At the 1st of July 2011, the first mound will be ready. When a mound is ready the owner can start to build his new farm.
Halfway though the year 2011 the excavation of the Westplas (lake) and the construction of the eastern part of the new dike and the last mounds will start. End of 2012 all mounds should be ready.
